eli akersteinEli Akerstein has turned his life-long athleticism into personal training and teaching fitness classes. Drawing on his gymnastics, wrestling, and spring-board diving experience, Eli designs programs specifically for individuals’ goals and personalities because, he explains, “no two people are the same in what they like, want, and need in a workout program.” Eli earned his B.S. from Boston College, is NASM certified and, along with his brother, designed and manufactures AKROwheels, functional fitness equipment sold nationwide. Also an expert in bodyweight training, Eli says his focus in training is to use “a lot of fast-paced circuit training, utilizing traditional and innovative movements for weight loss and muscle tone.” Outside the gym, Eli has an interest in Eastern philosophy, theology, and painting.

Derek ChristensenDerek Christensen (Founder) - Most Americans are driven by the pursuit of happiness, but Derek Christensen is different. In Christensen’s case, happiness is a pursuit of constant drive. During his four years proudly serving in the USMC, his innate passion for improvement took focus as an unstoppable refusal to fail. It’s this attitude that inspires every inch and corner of his most recent conquest, the appropriately named Revolution Fitness. Derek is a veritable melting pot of fitness disciplines similar to that housed in his new gym venture, from his concentrations on functional training, inner and outer body alignment, therapeutic massage and energy work, to his grueling exposure to powerlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit training styles. His vast plane of experience has allowed him to compete with larger, “fitness-in-a-box” gym chains, yet still enables him to maintain a fun, neighborhood feeling. This daring step toward true fitness independence is radical by industry standards, but it has given Christensen and Revolution a recognized position of leadership in an industry sorely in need of a shift in priorities. It is hard to say which is more revolutionary: the fact that such a dynamic force as Revolution Fitness has emerged from the battlefield of corporate gym monopolies, or the incredibly refreshing take on fitness which Christensen is pioneering. At last, a leader willing to take a stand and liberate us all from the coorporate fitness doldrums.

greg cloutierGregory Cloutier has served Boston’s neighborhood gym as an expert personal trainer and health fitness instructor for nearly 25 years. Owner of Human Architect Personal Training, Greg holds certifications with the ACSM, Fitness Resource Associates, Lifestyle Management Association, and International Fitness Professionals Association. He received his B.A. in exercise physiology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and he is currently pursuing his graduate degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. When Greg is not in the gym, he works as Senior Research Coordinator at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, Tufts University, studying how exercises and nutrition may slow the declines in muscle, bone, strength, power, and function from aging and inactivity. In personal training, Greg tries to combine experience, evidence based on science, and art when working with individuals. Greg says, “I use teaching, support, and the feeling of community to achieve a great experience, and to have success in the goals of all my clients.” Greg has previously won Natural Bodybuilding titles, and his own goal is currently to work toward a personal best in local triathlons.
